Pearl Earrings

Of the many type of drop earrings, pearls seem to be one of the most popular and interesting.  Pearl drop earrings seem like they should be pretty basic, but the truth is that there are many designs and styles, right down to the type of pearl used in the earring.  They can be fresh or saltwater, natural or farmed, and consist of a wide range of colors.

Freshwater Pearl Drop Earrings

Freshwater cultured pearls are popular because they are less expensive than their saltwater counterparts.  This is because they are less rare due to the fact that they are easier to produce in mass quantities.  Freshwater pearls are made by muscles, and each muscle can produce multiple pearls at a time, unlike oysters, which can only produce one.  Due to the nucleation process, which uses square pieces of a muscle’s mantel, freshwater pearls usually aren’t as smooth and round as saltwater pearls, which use beads for nucleation.

Black Pearl Drop Earrings

As far as pearls go, black pearls are amongst the most popular.  This is because they have an interesting iridescence and rare beauty to them.  They are indeed quite rare, and therefor more costly than white pearls.  The cost is worth it though, because while pearls are certainly classy, black pearls add an additional touch of flare.

White Pearl Drop Earrings

if you’re looking for a classic, timeless look, then look no further than white pearl earrings.  White pearls are the pinnacle of classy style, and matching sets of pearls, including bracelets, necklace, and of course, earrings, are great icing on the cake of any evening outfit.

Pink Pearl Drop Earrings

Third on the list of popular pearl colors is pink.  Pink is a favorite color for women in anything from laptops, to jewelry, and that’s no exception when it comes to pearls.  Pink pearls are third only to the classic white, and the “mysterious” black.

In addition to these three colors, you’ll also find various other colors of pearls out there, including the tahitian chocolate pearl, which is increasing in popularity these days. Whatever style you choose, pearl drop earrings are a great combination of the classic pearl, and the drop style of earrings, and should be a part of any jewelry collection.
